Double Olympic Gold for G-Form BMX Athletes
In both the women’s and men’s BMX finals we saw our phenomenal athletes take Olympic gold. MARIANA PAJON: Colombia
Mariana Pajon the reigning queen of BMX Race, and G-Form athlete, has had a fantastic season winning the World Championships earlier this season and seemingly had no troubles winning yet another Gold today in Rio. Mariana was the favorite going into the Rio Olympics, and the defending 2012 Olympic Gold medalist. It didn’t seem like anyone could challenge her as she dominated her heats leading up to the final. But anything can happen in BMX with so many variables and unpredictable crashes. As the gate dropped and Mariana took the first straight, there was no question that under 35 seconds she would be crowned the 2016 Olympic champion. Crossing the finish line elated, Mariana was crowned yet again.
CONNOR FIELDS: USA
In the men’s competition it really could have been anyone’s race. American and G-Form Athlete Connor Fields hasn’t actually had his best season up until today. Coming back from an early season hand injury that required surgery, Connor just made the US Olympic team with some great results during the weeks leading up to the games. Connor was riding strong winning some of his heats but didn’t dominate and pulled off an incredible save in his final heat, just making it into the finals. Once the finals started Connor was head to head with Australian Sam Willoughby who had dominated the heats prior but Connor pulled a few extra powerful pedal strokes, and surged into the lead in the final turns finishing with a commanding lead.
Congratulations to our amazing athletes!
